MASKS AND SPECTACLES

Today i will be sharing some important opinions regarding the masks and spectacles.

Why i want to discuss about this? Its because in the past, we do not have to wear masks, so its very clear cut for us to choose the frame we like and as long it fit well and comfortable and your desired design. The eyecare practitioner will only have to adjust properly to fit.

Well, now all of us will require to wear the mask whole day or when we are outside. Some of the thicker masks we wear, will let the spectacles to jump up, some of the masks will let the spectacles unable to fit well on your nose. But some encountered issues when they go back home without the masks, different problems again.

So what details should we be looking out for when we are choosing the spectacle frame?

1) know what type of masks you will be using.

Based on the masks that you are wearing, choose the frame that can fit well on your nose. Its a very important factor for a proper spectacles. Cannot change the mask, change the spectacles. Cannot change the spectacles, change the masks!

Lenses Fogging because of wearing mask is very common problem now. We have alot of anti-fog spray, anti-fog wipes, anti-fog lenses in the market, choose and try at your comfort. But i feel there are many other masks that don't let your spectacles fog. Choose the correct Mask !!!

2) know your facial features

Different people have different facial look, some with flatter nose, some with very high big sharp nose, some with different ear positions, some with higher eye position lower ear position, vice versa etc.. It will affect the fitting of the spectacles for each individual factors.

3) try on with mask or without mask

When you are going to buy a spectacles from the optical shop. Please try with the usual mask you wear, and pull down the mask (JUST TO FEEL THE DIFFERENCE ONLY, STRONGLY INSIST TO WEAR BACK THE MASK IMMEDIATELY AFTER FEELING) to try see there is any difference. If there is difference, and its progressive lenses, pls consult the eyecare practitioner for professional advice. Its important!!

4) Type of frame

If you are using the thin type mask and it can fit very well on the nose, usually will be quite similar without the mask regardless of plastic frames or metal frame/ plastic frame with nosepad. Especially If its thick 4 ply type or either N95 etc, and the mask nose part is very thick, for certain people wearing the plastic/ metal spectacles, will have the spectacles jumping up. Those who are wearing progressive glasses, will have issues.

5) Single Vision Lenses or Progressive/ Customised Lenses

From all the 4 factors above, the most affected is the progressive lenses. Its because of the progressive lenses need fitting, the masks will affect the fitting. Single Vision lenses usually will not have much issues. Only high prescription might have issue. Check with the professional eyecare practitioners.
